Update from our MPLL President on May 26, 2020

Dear Members,

For the last two weeks, your board of directors has been working tirelessly at putting plans together to have a little league season. We have explored several different ways to safely carry out the season which we had settled on to reopen our league. Last Thursday, Little League International published additional guidelines and recommendations for resuming league activities.  If you would like to see the recommendations presented please follow this link: Little League Resumption Webinar

We met as a board last night for a third time to discuss the possibility of proceeding with the season based on these adjustments. Please know the biggest priority is the health and safety of our community which includes our players, parents, coaches, umpires and league volunteers. Given the strenuous additional guidelines, resuming the season would be a monumental task and a huge responsibility would fall on all volunteers, coaches, and parents. Ultimately, this massive risk falls on our league itself.  It is because of this risk that the board of directors voted to cancel the 2020 spring season. As president of McAllister Park Little League, it is with a heavy heart that I have to make this announcement. As a dad, a coach and a parent, I am extremely disappointed and sad. I have to put aside my selfishness in wanting to play, and focus on what is best for our entire community.

As a non-profit organization, this pandemic has financially hurt us. As many businesses and families are experiencing financial distress, we are not immune to this either. We have had no concessions income, no field rental revenue, and no spring fundraiser. Our income this year so far has been from registration and sponsorships. As with every year, the registration fees helped to cover our spring season startup fees in uniforms, insurance, equipment, and concessions supplies which were spent way before the shutdown began. Our monthly expenses have not ended either, as our maintenance costs continue for the upkeep of our thirty five acre, sixteen field facility. This is all done at our expense. We receive no support or help from the city of San Antonio or Bexar county.

Based on this, I am asking all of you to consider taking this as a tax deduction. Since we are a 501- c3 organization, your registration fee is 100% deductible on your tax return. This option provides the most value for you and also for the financial well-being of our community. Your financial donation will help ensure the league can continue moving forward with no feasible income at this me. For those of you who have already donated money to our league, we greatly appreciate your generosity and support. We would welcome any new donations to help our community.

The finance committee is looking at a reduced credit option for the fall season. They will be also putting together a financial statement for the spring season and will post it in another email in the next few days.

I want to personally thank the board for all of the work and me you put into the league. You are all winners in my book. Volunteering for this organization is not an easy task when coupled with managing your own jobs, family and personal lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! It is because of your leadership that our league continues and thrives.

I want to also thank all of the families in our MPLL community. Many of you have sent positive notes of encouragement and continued support. For that I am thankful!

Plans for fall ball are around the corner and will be dependent on how this pandemic fares throughout the summer months. I am positive we will be back stronger than ever. It is my hope and wish for all of you to remain healthy. I look forward to seeing everyone back at the fields……when the time comes. We are all truly in this together. Thank you again for your patience, cooperation and understanding.

Respectfully,

Tommy Moeller President, McAllister Park Little League
